Franz Kafka, “The Trial”
At a time when politics is considered to be all that is said that is not in accord with the views of the power elite, at a time when one needs to be daring to live and be a man, we most often lack courage.
I am neither brave, nor am I too daring, I am just a man.
Unable to forget during the late 70s and early 80s, I raise my voice to stop the time that someone wants to erase, and with it also the people.
Halfway through 1981, at a time when Karlo Nikolić was the director of Institute for Urban Planning and Economic-Technical Affairs, I left Šidal and joined the Institute as BEng Architect. I cannot help but recall that time and the pride in going there.
I know that those who managed to get employment there were the vanguard of that time. They stood out with their knowledge and their title, and also their earnings. Expertise and effort were aptly valued and rewarded back then. I am aware, like everyone else, that for this we can thank the vision and energy of the man who founded that company, laying the foundations of today’s Šidprojekt, the only successor that took it seriously and continued to build on this idea of his.
So, Tomislav Đorđević was no ordinary engineer. He was a flash of light in that time, which delivered results.
For much my own material existence, I am grateful to him even today. He gave me and many other young people the opportunity to excel and prove ourselves in our profession.
Why things are not going in that direction now, might be answered by current politics and the politicians who lead it in this way.
With respect to Tomislav Đorđević.
